As you should be aware, we have 3 vacancies on the governing body for parent governor. I have received 4 nominations as follows:

Personal statements are below.
Given that we have 4 nominations but only 3 vacancies, we will run an election to determine who will be selected. All parents / legal guardians may vote (vote for 3 candidates) and we will send home 2 voting slips for yourself and your spouse / partner (these will be sent home with the youngest child in the family – see overleaf). Please indicate clearly on the ballot paper your choices and return to the school office by noon on Friday 11th February 2022.

Personal statements of candidates for parent governor
Cheryl Gourlay
I have a real passion to champion the potential of our next generation of young people and would love the opportunity to join the Parent Governor Board. I have over 22 years in the financial services industry, of which, over 10 have been in the field of enterprise with a specific focus on youth education and gender. I'm responsible for implementing the Banks Women in Business strategy across the UK including delivering key strategic partnerships and supporting colleagues with their continuing professional development through our Women in Business accreditation programme. I’m also a member of NatWest Groups Cymru and South West Regional Boards, the Welsh Government Supporting Entrepreneurial Women expert panel, and Welsh Government Big Ideas programme. The latter programme specifically focusing on the Enterprise Troopers Primary School Competition which supports the four purposes of the curriculum for Wales. I thrive on taking a project from the vision to the implementation stage and would relish the opportunity to be a member of the team. I believe I have the passion, drive & commitment to support the board to achieve its objectives, and to ensure that each young person has a really positive valuable experience at Croesyceiliog Primary.
Leanne Lloyd-Tolman
My five children have all attended Croesyceiliog Primary. Four have now moved onto the secondary leaving just my youngest who is currently in Year two. I have also volunteered with the school PTA for many years to raise extra funds to benefit all the children. I’m normally stuck behind the chocolate fountain!!
Prior to children I worked in Social Care which involved child protection, managing difficult behaviour and therapeutic input. I believe these skills transfer well to the work of school governance.
I have been a Parent Governor for the past four years and have a specific responsibility for Safeguarding. I am particularly keen to ensure that all children are safeguarded effectively and are able to reach their full potential regardless of background, additional learning needs or disabilities.
My time as parent and governor has given me a unique insight into how the school operates and enabled me to form close working relationships with both staff and some parents. I’m often at school for pick up and always happy to have a chat.
I am not afraid to ask difficult questions when necessary on behalf of all the children the school serves. I am also keen to support the school and the dedicated staff who work there.
Thank you for reading and I hope that you will consider voting for me.
Bethan Moore
Please accept this statement in support of my application for Parent Governor.
Following my appointment as Head Teacher at Crownbridge School I am keen to further my understanding of the vision of Croesyceiliog Primary school as it moves forward in this exciting time of reform within Wales including the Additional Learning Needs ACT and Curriculum For Wales. I have attended a working party to lead on the new Curriculum and School improvement with Welsh Government and feel I have the most up to date information to challenge and support Croesyceiliog Primary within these areas.
As part of my role, I work closely with all staff, parents, external stakeholders and Governors. I am committed to communicating effectively between groups of people and always being mindful of how school wide decisions may affect each group. I would be interested in bringing my professional knowledge as an experienced teacher/Headteacher to influence the decisions made in the interests of staff and pupils.
It would be a privilege to support the Governing Body with their role in developing the strategic direction of Croesyceiliog Primary School and how staff and their views can be an important part of this.
As a parent I value the ethos and culture that the school has in place and want all pupils to progress in their future and in the next steps in their learning. A Better, Brighter future for all.
Tim Rees
I offer my honest and hard-working approach to this important role. I will look to work with parents, teachers, the Head and other Governors to help deliver continual improvement and high standards for the children that attend the school.
I’m a father of 2 boys, 10 and 13 who are/have attended North Road school. Through their time they have made great progress, I would therefore like to offer my expertise and time in appreciation for the support provided.
The majority of my experience has been within the IT sector, where I have maintained a proactive engagement with customers and delivered infrastructure. This experience has spanned both professional services and Government, I’m currently a civil servant.
I have the vital soft skills expected of our school governors and a willingness to be an asset to the school, dedicating my time to be a proactive and effective school governor.
