Update 12.05.2022
Thu 12 May 2022Dear parent / carer,
Please note the following:
- We have had several cases of Covid in the school recently in both staff and pupils. I am not sending out Track and Trace advice any more, but I thought that it would be useful to let you know that Covid is still circulating in the community and we have noticed an upswing in the last few days, particularly in Year 5 and 2. Please check for the symptoms! We have also had several cases of Chicken Pox – clearly this is a an issue for those who are pregnant, so take extra care.
- The governors are meeting with staff on Wed 25th May to discuss the school improvement plan for 2022 / 2023 – the draft priorities are principally around catching up academically (particularly with reading), the new curriculum, additional needs reform and the use of the outdoors for learning. However, we are meeting to set the priorities in line with both national and local needs and would, as ever, happily feed your observations and ideas into the debate. Please fill in the following form to help us evaluate our performance and offer your suggestions:
Many thanks.
All the best,
Simon Bates

Update 06.05.2022
Fri 06 May 2022Dear parent / carer,
Please note the following:
- Next week is ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ ( https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week ) and we will be doing some activities / sessions in school to support this. On Friday (13th May), we would like the children to wear green to help raise awareness of issues relating to this.
- We will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee in school on Thursday 9th June (the actual date is during half term). We will have a special menu for this day (attached – royal
pizza / chicken nuggets / sausages!!) and we will be running various fun activities during the day. The children, if they choose to, can come in something patriotic looking (Union Jack shorts etc!?) or you may want to opt for a 1950s look to echo when the Queen first took the reigns – your call!
- Parent consultations – parents / carers of junior children to go straight up the main path and those of the infants to enter via the Nursery gate and then either into the Year 1 building or across the playground and into the rear entrance. We will have signs up!
- Class photos will be on the previous day, Wed 8th June. We are trying a different photographer (Tempest) – feedback welcome.
- Sports Days – we will be running these in the coming weeks but staff do not feel quite ready to open this up to parents as yet as we haven’t had long to prepare and some of the children are not yet ready for mass participation events – we will open up assemblies first (after half-term) and then take it from there.
- Pupil absence – please contact the office (01633 624114 or Katherine.rowlands@torfaen.gov.uk or kirsty.hughes@torfaen.gov.uk ) if you child is going to be absent or they are leaving school during the day for any reason – Dojo messages do not always get through and we need an up to date record of who is not in, and why – many thanks. Holiday requests to me on the email address below.
Enjoy the weekend!
