Walk to school week
Mon 20 May 2024Dear parent carer,
See below from Miss McGiveron / the Eco Committee!
It is Walk to School Week this week (WB 20th May). The week-long challenge is not just about walking. This year's challenge encourages children to travel actively to school every day of the week. Any type of exercise is encouraged, including cycling, riding your scooter or even running.
Although it may not be possible for every child to walk the distance from their house to the school, parents are encouraged to 'drive and stride,' parking further than they normally would and walking the rest of the way. This also means that traffic congestion and pollution is reduced around school gates.
To get involved, simply leave your car at home (or a few streets away from school) and get your walking boots on. All you've got to do is walk!
Please help us to support the children in this challenge, as the class who manages to walk to or from school the most will receive a special prize!
Thanks!

Sports day - postponed
Thu 16 May 2024Dear parent / carer,
We have spoken to the grounds maintenance contractor today and they have recommended that we postpone Sports Day as the field is really boggy following the prolonged spell of rain that we have had – there is also more rain in the forecast (this afternoon) and, whilst next week looks better, they think it will take several weeks to dry out. I went up there earlier myself and, on the one side of the field, you sink immediately into the ground!
As such, we have decided to move the Sports Day (for both infants and juniors) to Thursday 27th June. Apologies for the inconvenience (and if you have booked time off work) – the weather has been against us on this one. Let’s hope we have a dry June!
All the best,
Simon Bates

School inspection
Tue 14 May 2024Dear parent carer,
We were notified yesterday that the school will be undergoing an Estyn inspection during the first week back after the Whitsun break, Mon 3rd to Thur 6th June.
As part of this process, the inspection team will look to gain a better understanding of how you, as parents, view the school. This will be done through an online survey and a ‘in-person’ meeting:
1. Online Survey
Please follow the QR code or hyperlink emailed to you and available on Class Dojo.
The online questionnaires will be available until 11pm on 19/05/2024
Please be aware that the back button should not be clicked on the browser once the questionnaire has been submitted as this could result in duplicate responses being recorded.
2. Parent meeting 03/06/2024 from 15:45 to 16:45
The inspection team will also run a parent meeting on Mon 3rd June at 3:45p.m. in the Infant hall. I would encourage all parents and carers to attend this meeting as it is an important opportunity for communication with the inspection team. Only parents/carers of pupils currently attending the school should attend. Normally, no children of school age should attend with parents as this can sometimes be disruptive or distracting.
All the best,
Simon Bates

Update 03.05.2024
Fri 03 May 2024Dear parent / carer,
Please note the following:
- Next Monday is Bank holiday. No school!!
- Recycling – as you may be aware, new regulations have come into force across Wales for small organisations / businesses with respect to recycling. Basically, we are now required by law to separate and recycle which is, of course, absolutely the right thing to do. However, we are upping our game and need you to help in two ways:
-
- All packaging from children’s packed lunches needs to go home so that it can be sorted and separated by either them or you! Ideally, use reusable containers.
- For snack, please supply a piece of fruit that is not in a plastic wrapper – there are food waste / compost bins on the yards, but not waste bins. Nothing in a wrapper for snack – just fruit!
- Class photos – we now have a date for this – Monday 20th May.
- Sports Day – 23rd May – we have moved the start time for juniors forward to 1:00p.m to allow more time – infants at 10:30a.m.
- Marie Curie – we collected £41.05 towards this worthy cause through the daffodil sale.
Upcoming dates:
April
8th Children return to school

Mon 6th May Bank Holiday
15th Year 4 Class Assembly

Year 6 mobile phone issue - Snapchat group
Tue 09 Apr 2024FAO Year 6 parents / carers
Dear parent / carer,
It has been brought to my attention that there is a Year 6 Snapchat group on which sexually explicit violent images have been being circulated. I know of at least 4 boys that have been part of this group, but the group may be much wider.
Can I suggest that you log into your child’s phone (which should be at home!) and check. You may also need to review your internet / phone settings to ensure that material of this nature is blocked. I suggest that you also ensure that your child knows what to do should they receive an inappropriate image or request for information. There is a clear safeguarding issue here and trust that you will follow this up as necessary.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further or would like any advice on keeping your child safe online.
Regards,
Simon Bates
