• Food Bank – another amazing effort by everyone to support the local Croesy Hwb Food Share.  The organisers asked me to pass on their thanks – Mrs Clark sorted some Christmassy food share items and made it up into a hamper, so hopefully our efforts will make some of our local families’ Christmas experience a little more cheery!

Please note the following:

 

• Next Friday 8^th Dec, the children can come in to school in a Christmas jumper if they would like to!  This is in support of  Save the Children’s annual campaign (which is the previous day).  If you would like to donate to this charity, the link is below:

• On this same day (next Fri 8^th Dec) we are organising a collection for the local food bank again (Croesy Food Share) – the usual produce (dry / tinned food etc) or, perhaps, something Christmassy (nice box of biscuits etc).  Our support is very much appreciated by the organisers and, clearly, the local community, some of whom are struggling at the moment (and attend our school).  Mrs Clark is organising this again in school, so well done to her for spreading the Christmas cheer!

 

• Christmas lunch is on the last Wed of term, Wed 20^th Dec.  This, of course, is now free to everyone through the universal free school meal offer from Welsh Govt.  However, due to the additional numbers, we won’t be providing ‘Funky Fillings’ on this day (wraps, rolls or jacket potatoes!).

Dear parent / carer,

 

Please note the following:

 

• The school photography will now take place next Monday and Tuesday, 27^th and 28^th Nov.  All pupils will have an individual photograph and all siblings in school will have a joint photograph.  However, if you would like a family photograph including yourself, older or younger siblings etc, then please email Mrs Hughes (Kirsty.Hughes@torfaen.gov.uk) to book a slot – these will happen after school on Monday in the infant school hall.
• The PTA (Mrs Roynon in 2DN / school staff!) will be running a Christmas disco on the evening of Thur 7^th Dec.  The infants (Rec – Year 2) will be between 4:00 and 5:00p.m. and the juniors (Year 3 – 6) between 5:30 and 7:00p.m. Refreshments will be provided. If your child would like to go, please send in £2.00 cash in a named envelope to be given to their class teacher.

• Individual photographs were due on this same day (17^th Nov) along with Thur 16^th Nov.  Due to the clash on the 17^th, we have moved the second day of individual photographs to Thur 23^rd Nov. (Thanks to the parent that spotted the clash and contacted me)

 

• Croesy Food Share – well done to Year 3 for organising our Harvest and helping sort the provisions out to pass on to the food share – there was a mountain of stuff so thank you for all your contributions – see below.

Whether you intend to select YES or NO, we encourage all parents to complete an e-consent form and have their say on their child's flu immunisation. For negative consents there is an option to make comments which will support us in understanding your reasons or barriers.

Please note the following:

 

• Parent consultations are this week and next.  For the Nursery, please enter via the Nursery door.  For all other infant classes (R, 1 and 2) please enter via the infant gate (far left gate) and either straight into the Year 1 demountable or through the yard door into the infant corridor.  For all junior classes (3, 4, 5 and 6) please enter through the junior gate (far right gate) and up the path and into the building.  Year 4 and 6 are on the right (looking up the slope) and Year 3 and 5 are on the left.
• Next Wed 25^th October Year 3 are leading a Harvest Assembly – Year 3 parents / carers are welcome to attend.  As part of this we have, once again, decided to support the local Food Share (Bank) on Woodland Road.  If you would like to support this very worthy local charity, please send your child in next Tuesday (24^th October) with an appropriate foodstuff – something dry or tinned etc.
• As a school, we are once again delighted to support the Royal British Legion with their Poppy Appeal and, with your help, raise money for a very worthwhile cause.  If you would like to support this year’s Poppy Appeal, please send cash in with your child and they will be able to make their donation and pick an item which will be available to buy from tomorrow (poppies, zip pull, wristband, poppy reflector and the very popular slap-band!).  All donations gratefully received with a suggested minimum donation of £1 for a Poppy and slap-band and 50p for all other items.

As you may be aware, Mrs Davies-Williams is currently off work due to ill health.  This will, unfortunately, be the case for several weeks and, in the meantime, Mrs Raine will be covering the class.

Please see below a message from Health seeking your consent to get your child(ren) vaccinated:

 

The School Nursing Service will be visiting the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on the 8^th and 9^th November 2023.

Please submit one form per child no later than 48 hours before the above date. Any consent forms submitted after this time may result in your child not receiving their vaccine on the day.  Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

 

It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible, as flu is likely to circulate this winter. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray.
